Paraty is a historic coastal town in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Located on the Costa Verde (Green Coast), Paraty has become a popular tourist area in recent years, renowned for the historic town, its coast and mountains in the region. The town is a preserved Portuguese colonial (1500-1822) and Brazilian Imperial (1822–1889) town with a population of about 36,000. The Historic Center, considered by UNESCO as "the most harmonious colonial architectonic set ", is only accessible by foot or bicycle. Paraty is also known for its combination of the flora, fauna, rivers, waterfalls and sea. Many areas in and around Paraty makes way for fun and responsible outdoor activities, such as kayaking and rafting, stand up paddle, a boat trip, diving, rainforest and coastal hiking, and biking.

How to arrive

Going by bus

Paraty is connected by road from Rio de Janeiro (BR101) and the trip takes about four hours. In case you plan to travel by bus, it is recommended you buy your bus ticket at least one day in advance.
