Prainha Beach is a secluded half-moon-shaped beach, surrounded by rainforests and imposing mountains. It is on of the most beatiful “Carioca beaches” and there are 360 degrees of spectacular views. Contrary to the most visited beaches in Rio, this one is less crowded, making it a better option for weekends. When visiting Prainha Beach you'll feel like you've left the city behind and are wrapped in splendid and dramatic nature. It is also one of the best surfing spots in Rio and there is a nude beach for the more daring. There is a lovely cafe overlooking the beach that serves nice lunch and sucos. You need to get up early to visit the Prainha beach, because there are a few number of parking spots (and the easiest way to get there is by car) - this fact causes a big traffic. The beach is about one hour from Rio and can also be reached by the orange "surf bus" that passes through Copacabana and Ipanema.
